K&P Young Athletes July/August Newsletter
Our young members have gone from strength to strength this summer. Further excellent results in the league competitions during July set us well on course for the best season in recent years. Quite a few of our athletes also saw their achievements recognised by selection for the County squads.
Congratulations to our NYAL team: the third win in the fourth and last match on 20 July ensured that we clearly won the London Division and have earned promotion into Division one. Once again, it was the combination of great turnout and individual excellence that proved decisive in keeping a strong South London Harriers team at bay. It was great to see not only our most experienced athletes in winning mode, but also many of our new members adding massive points to the tally.
For the last competition in the League series on 12 July in Guildford, our aim to seal overall 2nd place by winning our match was severely handicapped by the absence of most U17 athletes. Battling bravely, the diminished squad still achieved a respectable result, probably coming third in a closely contested match. We are still waiting for the final standings in the League. Back to full team in the cup finale on 20 September in Kingston (hopefully with John back at the reins), our girls have every chance to challenge for the Cup.
The boys faced a very tough challenge in the second match at Croydon on 13 July. At the end of a rather chaotic competition, Herne Hill Harriers just managed to go past Pat
